Last week, students gathered for an insightful workshop on Anxiety and Depression Awareness. This engaging event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about these critical mental health issues and explore effective strategies for managing them. Participants left with a better understanding of anxiety and depression, along with practical tools to promote mental well-being in their lives.

Participants were part of this meaningful celebration by connecting with the rich cultural hispanic heritage and paid tribute to those who have passed away. Participants created an ofrenda for the Dia de Muertos and honor their loved ones.

During the presentations at the FYE course, the students learned about the programs that the HSI Grant Services Department provides to students. Also, in collaboration with the Learning Technology Center, students learned about how to navigate Canvas.

This empowering session helped students to explored the inner workings of the mind and provided practical tools and strategies for taking control of one's thoughts and emotions. Through mindfulness techniques, positive affirmations, and expert guidance, attendees learned how to overcome self-doubt, silence their inner critics, and cultivate a strong sense of self-worth.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Financial Wellness Workshop on September 19. We thank Ashley Switzer from Financial Security Credit Union and Nick Walker from Edward Jones-Financial Advisor: Nickolas Walker, CRPC, AAMS for an enlightening session on the basics of retirement and investing, equipping you with valuable insights to shape your financial future.

During this workshop, students learned about healthy relationships and communication skills. Honor Medina provided information and tips about this topic. The HSI Grant Services department in collaboration with Tiki Tops, provided coffee, iced coffee, boba teas and bagels for students.

During the Early College Survival Boot Camp, students learned about time management, APA citation and plagiarism, diversity, reading strategies, as well as getting to know the resources available for them at Southeast New Mexico College. Staff and faculty made this possible to ensure students have the tools for a success semester.

HSI Grant Services hosted a special event in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month! For the final Mind CTRL Session, SENMC teamed up with the fabulous Tiki Tops Coffee Shop and provided healthy smoothies to students. The event was held on May 4th, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM in Room 153.

In collaboration with Financial Security Credit Union, a workshop about how to manage your finances while going to college, as well as, time management was provided on August 22nd. Iced coffee was provided from a local business named Tiki Tops Coffee Shop.
