On February 6, 2025, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) hosted an APA Citation Workshop to help students improve their academic writing and research skills. The workshop was led by Dr. Jonathan Wilson, an Assistant Professor of English at SENMC, and sponsored by the HSI Grant Services Department. For those who could not attend, SENMC recommends using the Purdue Online Writing Lab (owl.purdue.edu) for a detailed guide on APA formatting and citation rules.

On January 22, 2025, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) hosted a LinkedIn Workshop aimed at enhancing students' professional online presence. The event, sponsored by the HSI Grant Services Department, was part of SENMC's ongoing commitment to providing career development opportunities for its students. Students who attended the LinkedIn Workshop gained valuable insights into optimizing their profiles, networking effectively, and using LinkedIn's job search tools. Participants left with greater confidence in leveraging the platform for career success.

On January 30, 2025, students and faculty gathered for an engaging and informative pizza party hosted by the CLIFF Scholars Honors Program. Zane Biebelle, the director of the CLIFF Scholars Honors Program, led the session by providing valuable insights into the benefits of becoming a CLIFF Scholar. Biebelle outlined the entry process, eligibility requirements, and the numerous advantages that come with participation in the program. At the Mind CTRL Mental Health Workshop on January 30, 2025, participants learned mindfulness techniques, breathing exercises, and stress-relief strategies to help manage daily stress and enhance well-being. This was the first of several mental health workshops scheduled for the spring semester and sponsored by the HSI Grant Services Department. Participants of the STEM Club Esports NIght battled it out on screen while enjoying pizza on January 30, 2025. This was the first of several Esports Nights scheduled for the spring semester. Contact Gage Garza (ggarza1@senmc.edu) for more information.

The Learning Assistance Center welcomed students back and kicked off the spring semester with a two-day Spin to Win event that started on January 21, 2025. Students stopped by the LAC and answered campus trivia questions for chances to win great prizes.

Southeast New Mexico College is proud to announce the 88 students who have been named to the Southeast New Mexico College President's List for Fall 2024. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester credits with a computable grade in each class and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Southeast New Mexico College President Kevin Beardmore said, "I am honored to recognize the 88 students for the Fall 2024 President's List. It is an outstanding academic achievement. I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that these students invested in their educational and professional growth."

Students learned how to create their own monthly budget and set financial goals for the year on January 16, 2025, at the first Financial Future Workshop of the spring semester. The session emphasized the importance of financial planning, provided actionable tips for managing money effectively, and encouraged participants to develop habits that support long-term financial wellness. The Spring 2025 Welcome & Orientation was held Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Students in attendance learned about various resources on campus, such as Student Services, the Learning Assistance Center, the Learning Technology Center, and the Library, as well as information about the Peer Mentoring Program, the CLIFF Scholars Honors Program, and Merit. The event concluded with a tour of the SENMC campus.

Students were welcomed back on the first day of the spring semester at SENMC with a Welcoming Faculty and Peer Mentor Meet & Greet on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Students gained valuable information for the semester while visiting with faculty and peer mentors.

Students attended the Mind CTRL Mental Health Seminar on December 12, 2024, given by Honor Medina. This month's seminar focused on managing difficult personalities. At SENMC's first Pop-Up Course Boutique event, students shopped for interesting "boutique" courses while enjoying food, prizes, and a bubbly ambience. The two-day event began on December 4, 2024, and gave students and faculty a chance to discuss classes and programs before the spring semester.

On December 10, 2024, students celebrated the end of the semester with a holiday themed Karaoke Party. Spirits were high as favorite holiday hits were belted out by students, faculty, and staff members.

SENMC students enjoyed an opportunity to relax and recenter at the Yoga & Meditation Class sponsored by HSI Grant Services on November 21, 2024.

Southern New Hampshire University congratulates the following students on being named to the Honor Roll for the 2024 C-5 (Sep - Oct) term. Honor Roll is a term-specific achievement that recognizes learners who excel at SNHU. It was established in 2022 to help recognize academic excellence in our part-time and graduate learners. Eligibility for the SNHU Honor Roll requires full-time or part-time undergraduate, graduate, or coursework only online or campus students to earn an academic grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for an individual term. Please note: Full-time undergraduate students who receive the Honor Roll may also be eligible for the President's List or Dean's List. Honor Roll is awarded at the end of each term, while the President's List and Dean's List are recognized at the end of the 16-week campus terms or following paired 8-week terms for online students. While acknowledgment of the Honor Roll is an achievement, it is not a recognized university honor and has no bearing on eligibility for honor societies, Latin honors, or ceremonial honors at the time of conferral or during the Commencement ceremony, nor will it be noted on the student's academic transcript or diploma. Please see the university catalog for policies specific to Latin and ceremonial honors.

On November 7, 2024, students enjoyed an incredible STEM Movie Night featuring the film Gravity. The event brought together 25 attendees who enjoyed an evening of cinematic adventure and engaging discussions. The movie's thrilling portrayal of space exploration sparked curiosity and provided a fantastic platform to celebrate National STEM Day. This event was sponsored by HSI Grants Services. SENMC students voted in the 2024 US Elections on November 5th and proudly displayed their "I Voted" stickers on campus.

Students looking to advance their careers in the Oil and Gas Industry attended the Chevron Recruitment Event presented by Sergio Urias on November 5, 2024. The students were given the opportunity to ask industry related questions and bring their resumes to interview for job opportunities at Chevron.

Student workers at SENMC participated in the Hallowpalooza event on October 31, 2024. Hallowpalooza is an annual event at Southeast New Mexico College that is highly attended by the community. Attendees show off their creative costumes, receive plenty of candy, and enjoy department decorations throughout the college. In addition to dressing up and handing out candy at the event, the student workers participated in decorating their departments.

The STEM Club Esports event on October 24, 2024, was a fantastic success. Students had a great time connecting over games, with friendly competition and lots of laughs along the way. Club members showcased impressive skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making it an exciting and enjoyable evening for everyone. Erick Dominguez, the STEM Program Manager, said, "Thank you to all who joined us and made the night memorable - we're already looking forward to the next event!" On September 16, 2024, SENMC students, faculty, and staff, along with community members, participated in the much anticipated HSI Talent Show celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The lively crowd enjoyed a wide range of talented displays, including music, dance, poetry, and more!

On September 20-21, 2024, the Alpha Rho Xi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and SENMC hosted the Annual New Mexico Fall Regional Conference. This year's focus was on the Honors and Action project and leadership development. PTK students from eight different colleges across New Mexico came together to hear keynote speakers and participate in a variety of workshops. Sponsored by Western Governors University, the event was a great success. The Friday night fellowship featured a BBQ and live music, allowing students to enjoy the sights of Carlsbad, followed by a river cruise on the Pecos River.

This workshop explored practical strategies for managing finances while balancing the unique challenges of being both a parent and a student. Key topics included budgeting tips for busy families, financial aid resources, time management strategies, and ways to access community support. Participants left with actionable advice on how to navigate their financial journey while pursuing their education and raising a family.

Students attended the Intro to Artificial Intelligence workshop on October 9, 2024, sponsored by HSI Grant Services. SENMC's Library Director, Samantha Villa, taught key concepts, applications, and ethical considerations of AI.
